Farrington Park Women’s Captain Pauline Young with her Vice Captain Jackie Willcox and teammates Sue Skryme, Hayley Bullock and Phil McKenny, recently completed their Marathon of three rounds of golf in one day, starting at 6.30am and finishing less than twelve hours later.

They were helped by a team of volunteers, who ensured the players were kept hydrated throughout their rounds and their golf trolley batteries had enough power!

The team were in high spirits once they finished and celebrated with Prosecco and a light supper. Pauline would like to thank the generosity of those who gave so much sponsor money for her Charity “Refuge - against violence to women and children”. To date an amazing amount of £2,000 has been raised. Pauline said it was an incredible experience, but something she doesn’t think she will be able to manage again!

The Ladies Open was well attended with 105 players from Farrington Park and local clubs taking part. This might have been the soggiest July on record, but the day was blessed with fine weather which added to the enjoyment of the Bowmaker competition. The Halfway Hut was staffed by the Farrington ladies and the fine cakes and tasty savouries together with a glass of Pimm’s was gratefully received by the competitors, either drowning their sorrows or toasting their scores depending on how well they had played the first nine holes of the Duchy course. A two-course meal and prize-giving ended the successful day with Captain Pauline Young announcing that the overall winners with 84 points were Michelle Young, Evie Thatcher & Lucy Goddard. Best home team were Pauline Brixey, Dawn Stacey & Gail Proctor scoring 75 points and the best visitor team with 74 points were Sue Finch, Jenny Garland & Laura Barnett. Jane Ball
