THIS year’s Max Stone Chalice event was held at Orchardleigh Golf Club in very hot clear conditions off the back tees, making the competition a stern test for all handicap ranges.
Fifty-two ex Farrington Park members (not a Swan in sight) including 10 past Senior and Club Captains set off with hopes of donning the Green Jacket when scores were returned.
A big thanks go to Davey Allardyce , Lee Matthews and Dave Swain for organising and Liz Thomas for keeping everything in order on the administrative side.
Clearly the difficult conditions and course set up caught a-few players out with only two players beating par in the nett medal competition. Lee (Adder) Francis, who is on the green staff at Orchardleigh, had the honour of sorting pin positions for the day and made use of dingly dell on the 17th green hoping to see a hole in one.
It didn’t take long as for the first time in his 53 years of trying Mike Goodliff holed out in one of the early groups; drinks in the bar were eagerly awaited.
Davey thanked everyone for donating raffle prizes and confirmed a sum of £150 would be going to the local British Legion.
Winners: Nearest the pin - Mike Goodliff; Longest Drive - Jack Broadway. 3rd Gross - Ethan Jones, 2nd Gross - Shane Phelps,
1st Gross - Jack Broadway. 3rd team - Paul Thomas, Dave Collins, Jon Gregory and Eric Hogg; 2nd team - Davey Allardyde, Dave Swain, Stewart Allardyce and Jamie Webb; 1st team ( bingo boys) Al Presley, M Jones, A Raikes and R Franklin.
