Orchardleigh Golf Club Ladies challenged the Men’s Senior section in a fun competition at Orchardleigh recently, despite the wet forecast.
The competition was played in four balls of individual stableford points. Each lady was paired with a man to give a combination score and the results of that were – First: Patt Pitt 39 points and Terry Ryan, 35 points, total 74, second: Christina Francis, 35 points and Dave Jukes, 34 points, total 69, third: Pat Jones, 32 points and John Scott, 34 points, total 66. Lorraine Collings won the prize for the longest drive.
The total of the Ladies’ Individual scores did not reach the Seniors’ total by quite a margin, so the Men’s Senior section triumphed over the Ladies’ section for the second year running. Nevertheless, everybody enjoyed the day and a very friendly atmosphere prevailed in the clubhouse afterwards over a carvery meal.
Some recent match results for the Ladies’ Section: In the Bristol and District Alliance, Orchardleigh lost to Filton away, 4–10 and were defeated again by Filton at home, 6–8, but had a better result against Thornbury B team at home, winning 9–5. In the Interclub League matches, Orchardleigh had a very convincing win over Minehead at home, beating them 7–0, but lost to Wheathill away, 3–4. Two recent Friendly matches were played at home, resulting in a win against Farrington Park, but a defeat to West Wilts.
The Ladies also recently played the Barwell Masters at Orchardleigh on a very wet and windy day, but this did not deter the winner, Christine Arnold, who came in with a score of net 68, resulting in a four shot cut to her handicap, well done, Christine! Diana Bullock, who was the runner-up, also played very well, with a net 69. Sarah Doble
