This week at Mendip saw the Finals of the KO Competitions for 2021.

· Jeff Jones: Pippa Brown & Clive Copp beat Alan & Sandie Roper
· Anderson Goblet: Paul Jamieson beat Merv Vaughan
· Hodder Cup: David Graham & John Ollerton beat Malcolm & Wayne Srawley
· Rickards (Scratch) Cup: Tom Small beat Jack Hayes
· Hospital Cup: Mark Necker beat Guillaume Lesage
· Duffers Cup: James Blackstock beat Martin Sutherland
· Jim Thame Foursomes: Andy Parfitt & Paul Smith beat Malcolm & Wayne Srawley.
The Mendip Mens’ Jim Jeffrey Putter competition attracted 103 entrants and resulted in a five-way tied finish on net 68. After countbacks, Neil Onslow ended up fifth, David Graham fourth, Chris Jackson third, Paul Lewis second but the trophy winner was Chris Roe.
The Ladies’ Daily Mail Foursomes event, whereby the winners go through to represent Mendip in the Regional rounds, saw Margaret Allen and Lulu Carolan in second place with 84 after a triple countback, but clear winners, with an excellent 81, were
Andrea Williams and Anne
Hopkins.
The Ladies’ Waltzing Matilda contest saw 32 entrants, a lower than usual number, as there were also league matches taking place. Caroline Simper/Sandie Roper/Pauline Williams/Susy Rudkin, between them having 115 shots were second with 70 points, just beaten by the winners, with 71 points, who were Edwina Willis/
Jo Espley/Jinhee Page/Lynne Vowles who were receiving 55 shots.
The Ladies’ Alliance B Team had a hard fought for match when visiting
Wedmore. After some close matches, Mendip were on the wrong end of a 6–8 scoreline after wins for Jenny Merrett, Jan
Fukuyama and Chris Olds.
The Inter Club Team finished their fixtures when entertaining Worlebury at Mendip. A very close match saw Mendip come out on top 4–3, with wins for Anita Butcher, Diane Stanton, halves from Dee Garnsworthy and Chris Williams and a match clinching win for Team Captain, Andrea Williams who won on the last after being two down.
The annual Ladies v Seniors match took place and as usual, turned into a very social occasion, finishing off with an excellent meal. The result was a very friendly halved match. The Ladies’ wins came from Chris Olds/Louise Scott, Jinhee Page/Alison Kay, Fran Davies/Lilian Peel and Elaine P Richardson/Julia Phillips with the Seniors’ wins coming from Alan Kay/Antony Scott, Martin Osborne/Terry Carter, Martin Wilkins/Keith Gadsden and John Brooksbank/Alan Edwards.
Mendip met Oake Manor in the Final of the Somerset County Seniors’ Scratch Cup. Regrettably, Mendip again came off second best, but only after a very close match. Ian Perkins and Chris Lindley recorded excellent wins to leave the match at 2–2 and Team Captain, Martin Myers, only just lost the decider at the first extra hole after the match finished all square after 18.
The Seniors’ entertained Wedmore and ran out 3½–2½ winners. Successful for Mendip were Robert Berry/Alan Snow, Keith Beasley/Nigel Cheshire, Martyn Russell/Ian Hall with a half gained by new member, John Scott, playing with Henry Banks.
The Pro Shop Nearest the Pin was won by John Ellis.
