Ladies Captains Day 2026, Match Report: The Scratch team wrapped up a second league title with a 30-13 win away to Taunton and Pickeridge. There were wins for Jack Vowell/David Goldie & Jack Hayes/Ben Cox. Dan Owen/Rob Beattie & Phil Leadbeater/Darrin Vowell also managed creditable halves.
It hass been a season to remember for the team with 19 players representing the club over six games, ten of whom were undefeated.
Among those Benedict Toomey takes the prize for player of the season. 5 wins from 5 with 3 different partners bagging 56 points.
Mendip ladies played their final ICL match of the season, at home to Minehead, on a gloriously sunny day at the end of September. Mendip won 6-1, which ensures that they will remain in Division 2 for next season. Well done, team.
The Mixed team played their final mixed friendly against Kingsdown which resulted in a halved match - always a great result for these social fixtures.
The ladies Alliance A team also played their final match of the season at home against a strong Burnham & Berrow team and went down 8-6, Mendip’s three wins going to Aimee Sawyer, Lynne Vowles and Kerry Pawley.
Unfortunately after the 12 matches this season, Mendip have finished just five points short of retaining our position in Division 1 next year. However, many thanks must go to the 18 ladies who have appeared on the team sheets this summer, facing some strong opponents and at times some very testing weather with a number of hot days - too hot at times.
Other News: Head professional Alex Todd and member Harry Connock, who won the qualifying round for the Srixon Amateur Championship earlier in the year, travelled all the way up to Scotland to play the Srixon Amateur Championship Final at Dundonald Links.
The club are delighted to announce that Harry and Alex won the Team Championship with 65 points! This was a splendid achievement especially after such a journey.
Meanwhile, after such a hot summer, the cooler weather has provided golfers at Mendip and other courses with ideal conditions to play the game.
