The Mendip Men held a Texas Scramble Medal event this week, which as usual resulted in some very low scoring. Net 60, 11 under par, sounds a good score but that only secured third place for the low handicap team of Ian Perkins, S Morris and Peter Davies. 59.8 brought a second place finish for C Huzal, D Baker and I Cullen. However, Mark Bowers, J Richards and R Dyson secured top spot, with net 58.
The Ladies Alliance B Team went down 4-10 against The Kendleshire, with wins recorded for Mendip by Edwina Willis and a very late replacement, Elaine P Richardson, on her Team debut. The final match of the season saw a close affair against divisional winners, Clevedon A, with Mendip finally losing 6-8. Wins this time came from Edwina Willis, Chris Down and Chris Olds. Regrettably, this result meant that Mendip will be relegated to Division Four next season.
The Seniors held their monthly stableford, which attracted 81 entries. Division Two went to Rowly Williams, with 37 points, with Terry Purnell second, with 37 and John Cross third, with 36. Division One saw yet another very fine performance from Paul Apfelstedt, who won with 40 points, with Bob Smallcombe second, with 38 and Nigel Hill third, beaten on countback. The Veterans Division again went to Michael Clark, with 34, Hugh Campbell was second with 30 and Derek Strudwick was third.
The Seniors team notched their eleventh straight victory when defeating Taunton and Pickeridge 4½-1½. Wins came from Nigel Hill/David Pilbeam, Mike Snaith/Terry Carter, Philip Moores/Bryan Lewis and Martin Osborne/Andy Frampton with Les Kew/Simon Atkinson gaining a half. The winning sequence continued when defeating Wedmore 5-2. Wins this time came from Mike Snaith/Nigel Hill, Brian Say/David Pilbeam, Henry Banks/Simon Atkinson, Bob Smallcombe/Kevin Carmody and Nick Inskip/Jim Mallon.
The final match of the season saw an end to the winning run, but nevertheless a drawn match was achieved when entertaining West Wilts. Mendip wins came from John Padfield/Andy Frampton, Philip Moores/Nick Inskip and Nigel Hill/Peter Rumming.
The Mendip Mixed team visited Bath, but found giving shots in most matches a little too challenging and eventually went down 2½-4½. Victorious for Mendip were Lady Captain, Patricia Rawlins/Martin Wilkins and Pauline and Alan Williams, with Lyn and David Cox halving their match.
Mendip held a Senior Mixed Open Event that attracted 34 pairs. The Best Visitor Team prize went to a team from Dudsbury, with 40 points, with a Cotswold Edge Team second, with 38. The best Mendip Team Prize went to Rod Dyson and Nichola Croft, with 42, with Peter Davies and Chris Atkinson second, with 41.
