The first Men’s Competition of the season took place with the running of the Mid-Week Tankard.
Winning Division One with 30 points was Wayne Black, with Matt Bendall second with 28 points. Two players dominated Division Two with excellent rounds. Mike Lill was the winner with 39 points, with Brian Smith second with 38, and he was followed by Simon Wynn with 36. Division Three went to Jonathan Lloyd with 32 points, with Peter Rummings second with thirty, beating Alan Edwards on count-back.
42 Ladies competed in glorious sunshine, playing a three-person Bowmaker. Winning with 70 points were Anita Butcher, Anne Collins and Diane Stanton. In second place with 66 were Jenny Merrett, Jan Fukuyama and Fran Davies and they were followed by Margaret Shrimpton, Sue Needham and Karen Cookson.
The latest Nearest the Pin Competition, run by the Pro Shop Team, saw a win for Scott Butland, with Richard Jeffrey second and Wayne Spencer third.
Mendip Junior, twelve-year-old Ellen Reakes, played in the Somerset Schools Golf Champion-ships held at Weston-super-Mare. Conditions were truly horrible but Ellen played extremely well, scoring a nett 72 and ending up in fifth place. She continues to make excellent progress, and she has now been promoted to the Somerset Girls Performance Coaching Squad. All at Mendip will be watching her progress with great interest this season.
Mendip are holding a Junior Golf Competition on Saturday, 7th April called Drive, Chip and Putt. The Driving will take place on the simulator and the chipping and putting will take place on the chipping and putting greens. The Competition is open to all local youngsters, you do not have to be a Member of Mendip.
