The first club-run Competition of the year was a Men’s Triple Six event and attracted ninety entrants, a large turnout for the first weekend of March.
Scoring was very good, with the event going to the pairing of Owen Cullen and Greg Wood with 42 points. In second place came Steve Moore and James Pitchell with 41, and in third place were Troy Chivers and George Hobbs with forty, beating Mark Necker and Andy Laing in the back nine.
The Ladies played their first eighteen-hole event of the season, a yellow ball bowmaker where there is a large premium or penalty if you look at it that way, with the scoring by the player on each hole with the yellow ball.
39 Ladies played, and the winners were Cora Pavey, Julia Phillips and Pauline Williams with 103 points, with Lulu Carolan, Margaret Allen and Margaret Hawker in second place with 100 points and Jenny Merrett, Edwina Willis and Jo Espley with ninety points in third place after countback.
The Seniors held a Bowmaker event, and 84 Seniors competed. The winning score was 82 points, and this was achieved by Nigel Jarvis, Kelvyn Lumn and Derek Strudwick. In second place came Selwyn Rees, Stephen Davis and Ian Perkins with eighty. Steve Turner, John Ellis and Gareth Collier were third with 77, and Brian Smith, Bryan Francis and Trevor Foster were fourth on 75 after a triple-countback.
