Mendip’s Men’s Avalon A Team visited Oake in their latest Division Three match. Unfortunately, they caught the whole team on a good day and were defeated 1-4. Winners for Mendip were Jack Hayes and Mark Crook.
The Mendip Ladies played Enmore, at Wheathill, in the first round of the Rogers Cup, a Somerset County event. This resulted in an excellent win, 6-1. Victorious for Mendip were Aimee Sawyer (just back from playing in the Scottish Ladies’ Open), Ellen Reakes (who won her match on the 19th), Fran Davies, Marian Speed, Edwina Willis (who won on the 20th) and Chris Down.
The Ladies held a 4BBB Stableford which attracted 38 entrants. Winning with a fine 38 points were Margaret Shrimpton and Sandie Roper. Second with forty points were Elaine Richardson and Allison Rumming, on countback from Kay O’Connor and Val Dixon. Hilary Rowdon and Fran Davies were fourth with 39 points.
28 Members of Mendip who play in a Society known as The Cock and Ball went on their annual tour, this time to Bournemouth, and played the three prestigious courses in the area: Ferndown, Parkstone and Broadstone. As ever well organised by Alan Evans Jones, the group were very lucky to encounter some unseasonably warm weather.
All the courses were in very good order, although showing the signs of the very hot, dry spell last year, with fairways some way from recovery. It takes a trip like this to realise what you have to enjoy at your home course. In the event, a very good time was had by all with the prizes by and large shared around.
The Pro Shop Nearest the Pin Competition this week was won by Ellen Reakes, with Tom Fooks second and Tony Taylor third.
