The best result this week for Mendip came from the Seniors’ Scratch Team, who beat last year’s winners, Weston 3-2, in the Semi-Final of the
Seniors’ Scratch Cup.
Winners for Mendip were Ian Perkins, Chris Lindley and Martin Myers, and they now progress to the Final to be played against Oake.
Mendip’s Avalon A Team recorded a 3-2 victory over Worlebury with wins for Wayne Black/Stephen Moore and Ben Cox/Steve Coate, with Richard Gumbleton /Brian Rawlings and Wayne Srawley/Dan Allen gaining halves.
The Avalon B Team visited Wheathill and came away with a 3-2 win. Successful for Mendip were Simon Wynn/ Rob Ware, Mark Necker playing with John Brooksbank who was making his seasonal debut and John Ellis/Nigel Brokenshire.
They followed this up with another away win, this time at Cannington. Wins came from Liam Robertson/Mark Necker and Rob Cook/John Ellis with David Williams /Andy Wells and Shaun Robertson/Richard Clifford gaining halves.
A third victory came when the team entertained Wheathill and won 4-1. Wins this time from Liam Robertson/Mark Necker, Shaun Robertson/Paul Smith, James Herniman/Richard Clifford and Rob Ware/Simon Wynn.
The Ladies held a yellow ball bowmaker this week; a close-run affair with the top two teams only separated by countback. Winning with 120 points were Elaine Richardson/Allison Rumming/Sandy Roper, with Dee Garnsworthy/Ellen Reakes/Val Dixon in second place.
The Ladies Alliance B Team entertained Bath, but went down to a 4-10 defeat. There was a win for Anita Butcher and halves from Lynn Cox and Hilary Rowdon. The Inter-Club Team also found Bath too strong, losing 1½-5½. Margaret Hawker won her match with Team Captain, Andrea Williams, gaining a half.
The Mendip Ladies’ Friendly Team went down to a narrow 2-3 defeat when playing local neighbours, Wells. Winning for Mendip were Val Dixon, playing with a very much in-form Philippa Brown, and Tricia Murphy/Julia Phillips.
The Seniors’ Captain, Bryan Lewis, held a very successful away day at Oake with 44 Seniors competing. Playing in teams of four, the winners were David Williams, Nick Inskip, Alan Evans-Jones and Mike Curtis with 90 points.
In second place were Simon Brand, Tony Taylor, Stephen Lake and Martin Osborne with 89 beating the third-placed team of Stephen Davis, Tony Williams, Brian Barton and John Cross on countback.
The Seniors Team visited West Wilts and went down to a 1½-4½ defeat. Terry Carter/Peter Rumming won their match, with Mike Lill/Philip Moores gaining a half.
Mendip’s Mixed Team held their ever-popular match versus Enmore, and this resulted in a very honourable half 4-4. Mendip’s winners were Rob and Sue Needham and Clive Copp/Philippa Brown, with John Whyman/Liz Rose, Mike and Julia Philips, Alan and Pauline Williams and Dee and David Garnsworthy all gaining halves.
And finally the Pro Shop Nearest the Pin this week went to John Ellis, with Philip Leadbeater second and Ellen Reakes third.
