The main event to report on this week is the Captains’ Drive In. Regrettably, with the current Covid restrictions, the mass gathering to witness the Captains actually driving in and the Clubhouse gathering to witness the handing over of Captains’ Jackets ceremony could not take place so it was a somewhat subdued event.

However, 140 players competed in the four person team event and Steve Morris, the new caterer, was kept busy supplying coffee and bacon rolls to all the competitors as they passed through the tenth tee. The Captains for 2021 who completed their Drive In after the event are James Boyce, Mens’ Captain, Anne Collins, Ladies’ Captain and Josh Seviour, Junior Captain.

The Mens’ Competition was won on 85 points by Hugh Glandfield, Nigel Cheshire, Norman Squire and Chris Roe on countback from Alan Snow, Richard Baillon, Low Wah and Michael White. The winning Ladies’ Team were Andrea Williams, Margaret Allen, Lulu Carolan and Cora Pavey with 72 points.

Mendip Men’s Hodder Cup is a 4BBB Competition whereby the top 32 pairs progress to a knock-out stage. 66 pairs competed. The qualifying medal score this year was net 68. Winning on the day were Stefan and David Golledge with a fine net 62 but only on countback from Paul Smith and Andy Parfitt. In third place with 63 came Mark George and Stephen Coate with 63, again on countback from Kelvin Adams and Paul Godwin. Brian Smith and Brian Francis were fifth on 64 on countback from Sam Scriven and Michael Rokitowski.

The Ladies’ Weekend Stableford saw a win for young Polly Jones with forty points with another youngster, Connie Cox, second with 39 points. Well done girls. Nichola Croft was third with 32 points.

The Ladies’ weekday event was a Waltzing Matilda and saw 48 competing. Runaway winners were Chris Atkinson, Elaine Richardson, Libby Bellew and Daphne Irons, with 77 points. They were followed by Alison Letts, Allison Rumming, Sue Needham and Susy Rudkin with 70 points with Lulu Carolan, Cora Pavey, Andrea

Williams and Chris Down third with 68 after countback from the low handicap team of Marian Speed, Fran Davies, Karen Cookson and Lynne Vowles.
