Mendip Golf Club’s men have been busy with the annual running of the Burnell Cup, together with a Midweek Stableford which saw 141 entrants.
Division Three went to Robert Earney, with thirty-nine winning on count-back from Geoff Collard, with M. Blowers third, with thirty-six.
Division Two saw a win for Leigh Harvey, with thirty-eight points, Ashley Swain was second, with thirty-seven and S. Brown third, with thirty-six, after countback.
Division One saw a win for M. Brook, with thirty-nine with I. Hall second, with thirty-eight after countback from Jack Hayes.
However, the Burnell Cup Trophy this year went to thirteen handicapper, Clayton Merrett, with a fine forty points.
This leaves the Order of Merit situation with Jack Hayes leading with 308 points, well clear of Peter Grafton in second place with 245 and Pro Shop
Assistant, Sam Scriven third, with 236.
Seventy-eight men contested the Midweek Stableford. Division Three was won by Lee Hurst with a best of the day score of forty one, with B. Waddington second, with thirty-nine and Chris Bennett third, with thirty-seven.
Division Two went to C. Merrett with thirty-seven, Gary Lenihan was second, with thirty-six on countback from Mervyn Vaughan.
Divison One was won by T. Beveridge, with thirty-nine, Kevin Keene was second, with thirty-eight and Tom Lowe was third with thirty-seven after countback.
The Pro Shop Nearest the Pin was won by Tony Taylor, with Ellen Reakes second and Phil Bendall third.
A special mention for David Garnsworthy, who had a hole in one this week on the eighteenth.
The Ladies held a weekend Stableford event which was won by Clare Salter with young Connie Cox close behind only beaten by one point.
The Ladies’ Midweek Medal went to Jean
Padfield, with a net 83, just beating Lynn Cox, who was just one shot behind.
The Ladies’ Stableford was won by Jinhee Page with thirty-three points, with Elaine Richardson second with 31 points after countback from Dee Garnsworthy, with Andrea Williams fourth with 30 points after a four-way tie.
