Mendip Men’s Avalon B Team continue to find the going tough, following last year’s promotion. Their most recent match took them away to the quirky Vivary Park, Taunton, course. This proved too challenging for Mendip, who had to settle for one halved match gained by John Brooksbank and Richard Gumbleton.

The Avalon C Team maintained their good run of form, with an away halved match at Wheathill. The points were gained by Scott Butland and Dan Allen, Rob Richardson and Martin Honeybun and a good half from Malcolm Srawley and R. Lake. This was followed by a good 3–2 home win over Cannington, with wins for Scott Butland and Dean Lewer, Philip Moores and Tony Logan and Dan Allen and Wayne Black.

The Ladies Alliance A Team recorded an excellent away win when visiting The Bristol. Victories came from Patricia Rawlins, Jinhee Page, Fran Davies and Jan Fukuyama.

The Ladies Courage Trophy went to Ladies’ Captain, Hilary Rowdon, partnered by June Page, who carded net 76.4 to win by the finest of margins from Jean Padfield and Lulu Carolan, who scored 76.8 net.

Winning the weekly Ladies’ Competition with 68 points were Vi Hayes, Mary Ware and Elaine Richardson, second, with 67 points, were Jinhee Page, Anita Butcher and Nichola Croft and third were Libby Bellew, Margaret Allen and Eileen Masters.

The Seniors’ Invitation Day brought together a small, but select band of competitors. In third position was Bryan Lewis and his guest, Andy Hill, from Yelverton, with 39 points on countback from Keith Beasley and Richard Birch from Wells. Second were John Shakesby and Tony Harrison, also from Wells, with 42 points, but winning for the third time in a month, was Chris Bryant and his partner, Dave Jeffreys, from Henbury, with 43 points.

The Seniors have played three matches over the past two weeks securing two halved matches and one defeat. Mendip visited Sherborne and secured a 3–3 draw with wins from Doug Thompson and Les Kew, Adam Spragg and Bryan Lewis and halves for David Pilbeam and John Stembridge and Tom Ryan and Tony

Taylor. A strong Weston Team then visited Mendip and went away with a 4½–1½ win with Mendip’s points coming from a win from Jim Scotta nd Nigel Hill and a half from Peter Letts and John Whyman.

The Seniors’ match at Enmore is always popular and this year was a sixteen-a-side fixture resulting in a 4–4 draw. Mendip’s points came from Andy Griffiths and Phil Cookson, Peter Rumming and Jim Scott, John Brooksbank and John Whyman and Phil Moores and Merlyn Saunders.
