ORCHARDLEIGH Golf Club Ladies section competed in a joint annual competition on Thursday, August 6.

The Macey Cup and Pudney Pitcher are played in unison as the Macey is for the more senior members (for those over 80s) and the Pudney is for the spring chickens (79 years and under).

This year's winner of the Macey Cup was won by nonagenarian Mary Lock who achieved an amazing score of 41 Stableford points showing you are never too old to play golf and win competitions! Pat Jones was close behind on 39.

The Pudney Pitcher was won by Sue Sweet with 39 points and runner up was Sue Marshall with 36.

On Sunday, August 9,the Orchardleigh members played in the Jefferies Trophy, a mixed pairs 4BBB Stableford competition. The hot, dry conditions contributed to some very high scoring with Sue Sweet and Malcolm Lloyd bringing in the best one with an impressive 45 points followed by Ann and Steve James with 41.

In the Bristol and District Alliance League, the Orchardleigh Ladies have recently lost two matches, their home match to Thornbury B 4/10 and the away match against Mendip B 5/9.

*Orchardleigh Golf Club is a premier 18-hole parkland golf course located near Frome, Somerset (BA11 2PH) and designed by former Ryder Cup captain Brian Huggett who won 16 events on the European circuit between 1962 and 1978. Sadly he passed away in 2024.

Spanning 6,824 yards the course plays to a par 72 for men and par 73 for ladies and it was named the South West England Golf Club of the Year in 2023 by Your Golfer Magazine.
