PHIL Winsley achieved every golfer’s ambition in the August medal competition in the Seniors section of Fosseway Golf Club with a hole in one on the tricky 10th hole.
It was Winsley’s first ever hole in one but he missed the excitement of seeing it go in the hole as none of the group realised what had happened until they reached the green. Winsley’s nett score of 68 saw him nudged out of third place on countback in Division One with Andy Flagg coming top with a nett 63.
Chris Champion was second with nett 65 with Graham Edgell’s nett 68 earning him third place with Pauline Brixey, like Winsley, missing out on countback. The best score came from John Cooper who topped Division Two with an excellent nett 61. George Thurston, Cyril Blacker and Frank Reeves all returned nett 64s with Thurston second and Blacker third on countback.
Meanwhile, Fosseway continued their outstanding home form in the Avalon Seniors League, whitewashing Enmore Park 5-0. Shaun Goodwin and Malcolm Emery were outstanding, winning 8 &7, Roger Parfitt and Paul Trigg won 5&4 while Chris Appleton and Alan Jones and captain Flagg partnering Allen Cheney were 5&3 victors. In the closest match of the day Martyn Cuer and Winsley finished 1 up.
In the latest social fixture Fosseway again excelled beating Wincanton at home 7.5-0.5. Mike Weeks and Winsley had the most convincing win, succeeding 7&5 while Edgell and Rob Wells and Blacker and Mike Cole were equally impressive winning 6&4. Pauline and Steve Brixey won 5&3, Jones and Noel Chatfield triumphed 4&3, Paul Trigg and Paul Ellis combined to win 3&2 and Anthony Gregory and Pete Young won their match 2&1.
