The Ladies’ Section at Orchardleigh Golf Club always have an annual ‘Away Day’ and this year it took place at Isle of Wedmore GC on Tuesday 23rd May.

It was organised by Pat Jones, Lin Handley and Sheila Goodbody who did a great job, including arranging a perfect day of weather. The format was a 4 ball bowmaker with two scores to count.

The best team score for the day was 83 stableford points which was achieved by the Lady Captain’s team, Loes de Kleuver, Jan Light, Helen Marshall and Marion Underhill. There is an Away Day trophy given for the best 1st division individual score which went to Anne Regler and the 2nd division trophy went to Pat Pitt.

The overall best individual score brought in was by Pat Jones. The nearest the pin prize went to Carol Weightman, the longest drive in 1st division to Jan Light and 2nd division Sue Chalker. There were also prizes for the best front nine won by Loes de Kleuver and the best back nine Carol Jenkins.

The ladies had a two course meal afterwards in the clubhouse where they agreed that everyone had had a great day and thanks were given to the three organisers who had put a lot of hard work into making it a very enjoyable event.

Earlier in the month The Barwell Masters was played at Orchardleigh and this year’s winner was Sue Sweet who came in with a nett 77 score.

Then on two consecutive Sundays, the 14th and 21st May the ladies played the Vincent Cup at Orchardleigh. The first round winning scores were Susan Marshall with nett 71 followed by Sue Sweet with nett 75. In the second round Loes de Kleuver came in first with a nett 72 and Sarah Hynds with 76.
