Congratulations go to Susan Marshall who was the winner of this year’s Orchardleigh Golf Club Ladies’ Championship, though all the players deserve a medal for playing in such appalling weather conditions in the first round.

The competition took place over two days, Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd July, and on the Saturday it was a case of heads down and battle against the elements. Amazingly some reasonable scores came in, with Susan Marshall and Loes de Kleuver both bringing in gross scores of ninety two followed by Anne Regler on ninety five. The second round was played in rather more favourable weather conditions but there were still a few heavy downpours. However this did not stop Susan Marshall holding her own, bringing in a better second round score of gross ninety along with Nicola Hawke and Anne Regler with ninety and Loes de Kleuver playing one more shot than her first round with ninety three. Susan Marshall was the winner on a total of 182 and runner up Loes de Kleuver with 185.

Another recent competition, which took place at Orchardleigh on Thursday 6th July, was the Ladies’ Macey Cup and Pudney Pitcher.

The Macey Cup is played by the more senior members (over 70s) and the Pudney is for the under 70s. This year’s winner of the Macey Cup was Jan Light bringing in a brilliant score of forty one stableford points, which was matched by Sarah Hynds bringing in the same score to win the Pudney Pitcher. The runner up of the Macey Cup was Carol Jenkin with forty points and runner up in the Pudney Pitcher was Anne Regler on thirty five points.

Perhaps the good scores reflect the fact that this competition was played on a fine sunny but breezy day with the course in great condition.
