This will be the last press report of the year, so may I wish all readers a very happy and joyous festive period and a prosperous New Year to one and all.

Let’s all look forward to 2022 with anticipation that it will be better than 2020 and 2021 has been with a much improved Covid situation. Next report second week in January.

The Final Turkey Trot event of the season for the men was the Singles Stableford. Terrible weather reduced the size of the field and the relatively low scoring was not surprising. Winning with 37 points was Steven Hall, a shot clear of Tony Logan, who was second after countback. This left John Ollerton third. Thomas Richardson was fourth with 35 and Simon Grant fifth with 34.

The Pro Shop Nearest the Pin again went to Tom Small, with Jack Hayes second and James Church third.

The Ladies held a four person Texas Scramble and despite the wintry conditions, 41 ladies took part. The winning team were Lilian Peel, Sue Needham, Ladies’ Captain Elect, Alison Rumming and Mary Ainsworth with a net 33 after a triple countback. This left Edwina Willis, Jo Espley, Lynne Vowles and Gina Howard in second place and Anne Padley, Pauline Williams, Sandie Roper and Susy Rudkin third. There was also a prize for the best three person team and that went to Elaine Kitchenham, Anita Butcher and Chris Down with a net 38.

The Seniors held a three Clubs and a Putter Competition which went ahead after heavy overnight rain. It shows how lucky we are at Mendip that the course was playable after such a deluge. Even allowing for the difficult conditions it just goes to prove that we really do not need fourteen clubs! There were two 39 points and eleven 2 spots! With buggies not allowed due to the conditions and a few players put off either by the weather or finding the selection of clubs too difficult a decision to make, a reduced sized field of 68 took part. John Stembridge won Division 1 with a fine 39 points with Martin Wilkins second with 36 and John Harvey third with 34.

Division 2 was won by Martin Osborne again with 39 with Steve Turner second with 37 on countback from Duncan Soper.

The Veterans’ Prize went to Adam Spragg, with his first appearance in the frame for some time with 36 points, Martin Lambert was second with 35 after countback from Sandy Keen, another player

returning to form after a quiet spell.
