On a scorching day with temperatures above 28C, Farrington Park had an excellent turnout of almost eighty players for their Senior Captain’s Day hosted by Captain, Alan Skivington.
Alan had put together some interesting combinations designed to test the abilities of everyone. Red, Green and Yellow tee boxes were used with a variety of formats, including Foursomes, Better Ball and Individual Stableford. Constant referral to the competition details was essential!
Two holes featured the dreaded ‘Greenkeeper’s revenge’. The 13th, for example, had no flagstick on the green and the 10th had half of the hole essentially blocked off’! That, however, did not deter Steve Park, who unbelievably had a ‘2’ on the hole.
Prizes were a combination of cash, golf balls and the customary bottles of wine.
Winners were Mike Woodward and Bob Baker on countback, with 55 points. In second place were Tony Waldron and Pete Ross and third were Dave Metcalfe and Steve Park with 53 points. A ‘special’ prize went to Tony Clement and Philip Michael; a collection of colourful golf balls. Don’t ask!
The Seniors’ Rosebowl team had a fine victory at home against Stockwood Vale, defeating them 4–1. We now face Minehead with a semi-final place up for grabs. Rob Thain
