So ‘Freedom Day’ – as the UK Government so delicately name it – is now scheduled for 19th July, and we all hope that a second delay will not be forthcoming.

The UK is stepping up its vaccination programme to have two thirds of adults double dosed by that date. A Whitehall leak suggests that we will all have to ‘live with Covid’ well beyond that date. Hardly breaking news!

An excruciatingly boring game between England and Scotland in Euro 2020 was played out at Wembley with Scottish fans more pleased with a 1–1 draw than England. The England squad seems more about individuals than team players.

Back to golf – the annual playing of the Eddie Jackman Trophy was contested with 85 Senior golfers taking part. It is now almost five years since Eddie passed away. At the ripe old age of ninety, he was still active and playing golf, no doubt helped in no small measure by the enjoyment of his love of Scotch! He always insisted on presenting the trophy to the winner, together with a bottle of his favourite tipple!

The winner of the Eddie Jackman Trophy will always come from a player in Division Three and this year, Richard Collier was the recipient with an excellent score of 47 points. Divisional winners were as follows: Division One: Colin Glibbery 42 points; Division Two: Steve Cope 45 points.

Friendly Match Results: Wells Away won 4–2; Saltford Home won 6–1; Tall Pines Away lost 4.5–1.5; Wells Home won 5–1.
