Farrington Park’s star golfer, Josh Hilleard, from High Littleton, was unbeaten on his debut for England in the Home Internationals at Nairn in the Scottish Highlands last week. But he was under-used and only appeared in three of the six sessions.

He partnered Harry Hall (West Cornwall), the only other West representative, in a halved foursomes match against the hosts to help England win 8.5–6.5. On the second day, he halved his singles against Welsh star, Josh Davies, from Celtic Manor, as England triumphed 11.5–3.5.

Everything hinged on the final match against Ireland. Josh played his part with a 3&2 win over Tiarnan McLarnon, but England lost the last singles as Ireland claimed the match 8–7 and the title.

Farrington Park Seniors’ Open is only four weeks away and the in-form players are peaking at just the right time. New senior member, Dave Forshaw, continued the trend of being a winner on the first outing, ably assisted by his playing partners, Leo Seddon and Bob McKeegan-Brown.

They won the latest competition with 91 points. They were followed by Mike Hedges, Eddie Cheasley and John Holland on 91, Chris Standen, Terry Thatcher and Boyd Francis on 88, Rob Chappell, Ray Wilkinson and Mike Henton, also 88, and Barry Hall, Bob Wright and Gerald Shearn with 87.

Jeff Kelly made it a day to remember and managed to avoid the many bunkers by making a Hole in One on the tenth hole. Nearest the Pin awards: 5th Don Perry, 8th Dave Forshaw, 14th George Tyrell, 15th Mike Woodward.

Farrington Seniors suffered a rare friendly match defeat by 7–0 at Stockwood Vale, but returned to form with a resounding 4.5–1.5 triumph at Wheathill.
