THE Seniors section of Fosseway Golf Club managed to select the hottest June day on record for their annual two day visit to Coleford in the Forest of Dean - but everyone survived and members could look back on another thoroughly enjoyable time away.

The first day was a very successful one for Paul Trigg who had put in so much time to organise the event. Not only did he finish third with 36 points, beating Malcolm Emery on countback but he also won the prizes for the longest drive and nearest the pin.

Seniors secretary Alan Jones came out on top with 38 points with Allen Cheney one point behind in second place.

Day 2 belonged very much to Roger Parfitt who only joined the trip at the last moment and Emery. Parfitt finished top with 36 points and also won the award for nearest the pin while Emery came in second with 35 points and also had the longest drive.

Chris Champion was third with 33 points, beating off the challenge of several other players on countback. Emery was awarded the Old Romans Trophy with the highest total of points over the two days (71).

The Seniors trip to Minehead and West Somerset in the Avalon Seniors League saw the hosts gain revenge for their 4-1 defeat at Fosseway with a 3.5-1.5 success.

Fosseway put up a great fight against the league leaders, however, and all the games went close.

Emery joined forces with Shaun Goodwin to earn a 2&1 victory while captain Andy Flagg and Cheney halved their match. Chris Appleton and Martyn Cuer finished one down , Parfitt and Gary Wilcox lost 2&1 and Trigg and Phil Winsley were beaten 3&1.
