We are now more than half way through the month of August and the sun has yet to make a sustained appearance. Our day threatened but failed to deliver the ‘occasional sunshine’.

Global warming, if nothing else, will ensure that golf bags will need to be produced substantially bigger than they currently are.

The variety of clothing now required is mind boggling; waterproofs (always in the bag), shorts – in case it gets too warm and you have trousers on; extra golf top – in case it gets a bit cool; rain hat, sun hat, sun cream. The list is endless. Professional golf caddies, as a pre requisite for employment, must be able to carry their own body weight for five hours!

The Farrington Seniors’ competition this week was the Romaine Tantalus. A qualifying Stableford competition played off 95% (I don’t know why either!). A field of 74 finishers was reduced by three for failing to sign their scorecards. Now we are back to normal, remember that you sign and the marker signs just like the good old days.

In first place with a score of 44 points was Martin Stevens who won the Trophy and received a playing handicap reduction of six shots. Some six points behind was Mark Greenman, with a score of 38 points, followed by Stephen Cockle, also on 38 points.

A point behind, both on 37, were Stephen Banfield and Mike Bradbury.

Securing a first away win since June, Farrington Park beat The Kendleshire on their turf 4–3. Well done, lads. Good to see that the Kwells worked! Rob Thain
