Sue Wells, Polly Williams and Jan Ambrosini proved to be the strongest team at the Ladies’ Spring Meeting, which was a bowmaker format.

In second place were Sue Hockey, Tina Davies and Jenny Ead, and in third place were Jill Bocquet, Silvia Gibbon and Barbara Harris.

Wells’ Seniors enjoyed their away match at West Wilts on a glorious sunny day, with the course in excellent condition. Summer golf at last!

There were two newcomers in the Wells team: Alan Thompson, partnered by Nick Carter, had an excellent 5&4 win on his debut, and Brian Mitchard, playing with Richard Sheard, enjoyed a close-fought match which ended in a half. Two other games were very close, with Nick Wilson and Bill O’Callaghan achieving another half, while John Moxon and Steve Bocquet lost on the last putt.

John Moxon, Seniors’ Captain, nearly had a hole-in-one, hitting the pin on a 168 yard par-three. The home team won overall by four games to two.

In the Ladies Coronation Foursomes competition, Cath Levell and Sue Hockey were first, just one point ahead of Linda Wright and Diane Ramsay, with Erica Klim and Sandy Heath one point behind them.

Wells’ Ladies played a friendly match against Wedmore Golf Club, which resulted in a most enjoyable afternoon and a win for Wells.

Wells’ Stragglers hosted Worlebury Golf Club in grey, overcast conditions for their first match of the season.

Adam Holliday, who was teased for playing with a horrendously bright pink ball on the first tee, hit a superb iron into the middle of the fairway and then followed it up with a ‘Where’s my ball gone?’ second shot. It went straight into the hole for an eagle!

A cock pheasant half way down the hill on the twelth fell in love with Worlebury’s Captain, and followed him (chirping away) all the way to the green.

The winning pairs were Steve Heath and Stuart Gowen, Mark Edgell and Terry Pearce, and John Hockey and Paul Hembury. Richard Mansfield and Bill Levell halved. Overall: Wells 3.5, Worlebury 1.5.
