The Seniors section of Fosseway Golf Club put up an excellent showing before narrowly exiting the Somerset Seniors Rose Bowl competition.
A fixture away to Saltford was always going to be a testing examination but a 3.5-1.5 defeat was much closer than the eventual scoreline indicates, with three of the five matches only settled on the last green. The home side proved admirable hosts and even the threatened rain stayed away.
Competition secretary Chris Appleton and Harold Lidbitter had a game to remember winning their encounter 6&5 with Alan White and John Fuller halving their match after being one up with one to play. Roger Parfitt and Phil Winsley and Shaun Goodwin and Gary Wilcox both ended one down while Graham Edgell and Alan Jones lost 4&3.
Alan White (pictured below) is the new Seniors champion after defeating Malcolm Tucker in the final of the Rupert Moore Trophy. Two down with three to play, White came back strongly to finish one up. Mike Ricketts claimed third place with an impressive 5&3 win over Martyn Cuer.
