The annual Pro’s Weekend event was supported by ninety players. Director of Golf, Stuart Disney and Professional, Alex Todd played a better ball round carding a net 66.

The challenge for the rest of the field was to beat that score with all who did sharing the prize fund. As it was with lovely weather and the course playing superbly, fourteen pairings achieved that with the best scores being net 63’s from Neville and Leigh Harvey and from Mark George and Stephen Coate.

Fifty one men played in the mid week stableford with three players beating par. In third place was Julian Redpath with 37 points, Tom Small now playing off +1 had an excellent 38 points for second place but the clear winner was five handicapper, David Cox with a fine 40 points.

The Ladies Inter Club Team visited Stockwood Vale and found the home team a little too strong with Team Captain, Andrea Williams saving the team a whitewash with a fighting half after being two down with two to play.

The Ladies Alliance A Team completed their season when visiting near neighbours Wells. An excellent match resulted in honours even at 7-7. Wins came from Jinhee Page and Edwina Willis with Team Captain, Marian Speed, Jenny Merrett and Chris Olds gaining hard fought for halves. This leaves Mendip currently second in the table, but with the team below having outstanding fixtures, it is probable that Mendip will just miss out on promotion. Still a very good season despite many selection problems.

Nearest the Pin winner this week is John Ellis with Paul Drew second.

The Final of the Harry Bowles KO Trophy took place between two Seniors very much in form this season. After a fine contest Chris Betenson emerged as the title holder beating John Shakesby 3/2.

The Seniors visited Saltford and lost 2-5 with wins from Martin Sutherland/Ian Hall and Alan Snow/Keith Beasley and this was followed by a further defeat when visiting Weston where they found the home side in very good form. Despite lovely weather and with the greens particularly quick, Mendip’s only win came from Seniors Captain, Alan Edwards playing with Charles Roberts.

The final Honours Board event for the Seniors was the Seniors Pairs, a drawn event where sometimes the pairings have not even met before (as in the case of the Winners this year). 34 pairs competed and there was some very good scoring leading to a congested Leaderboard at the top end. There were 24 birdies and Simon Wynn recorded a hole in one on the 17th.

12 pairings managed 40 points or better. 2nd place went to Michael Gardiner playing with Malcolm Srawley with 42 points after count back from Keith Beasley and Alan Kay and from David Jukes and Antony Scott. However clear winners with 44 points were Tony Williams and Jim Boyd, both playing off 15 who had a very consistent round with nothing lower than a 2 points on the card. Tony Williams
