First thing on Saturday morning, Norton Down was covered with a dusting of snow, but the pitch could take a stud, so it was decided correctly to let the game be played. As in recent weeks, Norton started slowly, allowing the visitors to score first, gaining a ten point lead. Kingsbridge kept the pressure on Norton, playing the opening quarter in the home side’s half.

As the half progressed, Norton’s scrummage started to dominate, and the side was able to gain field position and make the advantage pay. For the second week, full back, Murphy, carried the ball strongly as did hooker, Swift.

The dominance in the scrummage allowed Captain, Denning, to pick the ball up at the base of a five metre scrum and force his way over the line to score a try – with the conversion wide.

Just before half-time, centre, Anderson, was yellow carded. Kingsbridge extended their lead with the penalty kick, taking the score to 5–13 at the break.

Norton normally play well up the hill, but as the game continued, Kingsbridge slowly extended their lead while changes in the home team caused problems, reducing the quality of their ball.

This was a game Norton had hoped to win, but Kingsbridge were determined to take their chance to go above Chard in the league and the game ended 5–32 in their favour.
