The team of Alex Day, Matt Alexander, Callum Silkstone and Patrick Lodge looked to avenge a 10–0 defeat earlier in the tennis season.
Patrick and Alex played against Ben and Mike, and the Away team struggled with their service. It took little over thirty minutes for Alex and Patrick to ease to a 6–0, 6–0 win.
In the meantime, Callum and Matt were battling hard against Mark and Rob. Many classic rallies saw the away team recover from a 5–3 deficit to win, 7–5. A determined effort saw Matt and Callum recover a break of serve back to win the set, 7–5 with some impressive net play from both. A tie break would decide it and at 8–5 down, Writhlington took the next five points amongst a lot of noise and occasional racket throwing from both teams. A great win from the boys.
A quick turnaround for Callum and Matt, showed no signs of a long previous match, 6–0, 6–1 win against Ben and Mike.
Patrick and Alex, now playing a deflated Mark and Rob, broke serve in the opening game and comfortably held their own throughout the set to win, 6–4. Alex, with amazing rhythm on his serve, was hitting aces for fun in every direction. From 3–2 ahead, the Writhlington pair stepped up the game and continued a dominant serving showing with some great returning. 6–2 win and a vital ten points for the Firsts’ battle to escape relegation.
