Well, what a corker this week has been for our Norwest Bowls girls. They had their first two Wild League games of the season and won both.
The games were both played at home; the first, on Tuesday, was against the ladies of Street and with heavy rain all morning, it looked as if it would be cancelled, but the elements were kind and we managed to complete the required twelve ends in between the downpours. Despite the weather it was a very enjoyable afternoon, and saw us claim ten of the twelve points. By Thursday afternoon, the rain had stopped, and this time, we completed the whole eighteen ends against the ladies of Purnells; this time winning the whole twelve points.
Brilliant start girls, let’s try and keep it up!
Our lads also suffered from the elements when their Wednesday friendly against Paulton was cancelled because of the rain. By Thursday, conditions had improved when the lads turned out for their County Top Club competition game at Fosseway, where they did us proud, winning through to the next round. Well done, lads.
By Saturday, the rain had returned with a vengeance.
However, when it comes to the Men’s County League East competition, things get serious and donning their ‘wets’, they ventured out onto the green to do battle. The A team were away to Alexandra Park, where, although they won on two of the three rinks, they lost overall by five shots, claiming only four of the twelve points on offer. Meanwhile, at home to Purnell, our B team took ten of the twelve points by winning on two rinks and overall by thirteen shots.
For our Mixed game, we were at Alexandra Park on a lovely, sunny but chilly Friday evening for the first MMSL game of the season. The final score saw us winning on two rinks, but, unfortunately, we lost on ours, however, Norwest won overall by seventeen shots, which gave us ten of the twelve points.
So, overall, it has been a busy, but fairly successful week for us at Norwest, and next week looks set to be just as hectic, but at least we have our Away Day next Sunday to look forward to, when we shall all be swanning off to sunny Sidmouth for the day. There may be a few seats left on the coach, so if you’re interested, you could give Martyn a ring on: 01761 232865 and join us for a fun day out.
