Well, here we are in 2017. Another year older, but not necessarily wiser, but then, being too wise could become somewhat boring – and where’s the fun in that?

So what are my New Year’s resolutions for the coming year? Well, I’d like to lose a few pounds, learn to play the piano, and win the lottery, but let’s face it, it’s not going to happen, so I’ve decided not to bother with resolutions this year and just enjoy my life as it is.

And on the whole, it’s pretty good. But enough about me, what do you wish for yourself in 2017? Could one of your wishes be to get a bit more exercise, but you aren’t really into jogging or going to the gym? Maybe running is a bit beyond you and long walks following a tiny ball which invariably ends up in the rough would bore you silly, but you still like the idea of fresh air? Well, maybe I can help you.

What about lawn bowls? Yes, I know, I can hear you scoffing already, but you shouldn’t knock it until you’ve tried it. I’m not the sporty type, and most ball sports are completely beyond me, but, although I’ll never be brilliant at it, it’s something that I enjoy, and I’ve met some really nice people and made lots of good friends while doing it. So, how about giving it a go? We always welcome new members at Norwest, and we hold Open Evenings at the beginning of the season, so you can always come along and try it out and what’s even better, if you decide you like it, your first year’s membership is free! So really you’ve nothing to lose. Just give me a ring on: 01761 479310 if you would like more information, or keep your eye on The Journal for the Open Evening dates, and hopefully we can make one of your 2017 wishes come true.

As I write this, there are only 75 days until Subs evening and eighteen weeks until our bowls tour to the Isle of Wight. Frightening isn’t it – where does the time go?

Now for some dates for your diaries. In January, there will be a Beetle Drive on Saturday, 28th and Sunday lunch on the 29th. In February, on Saturday, 25th, there will be a quiz and Sunday lunch on the 26th. In March, Saturday, 18th is Subs evening, so you’d better start saving your pennies because it’ll be here before you know it!
