IT’S been fine week of bowls for Paulton in which three of their most consistent bowlers, Dave Beard, Lesley Beard and Dave Yarlett, entered the prestigious Bloomfield Open Triples competition.
And, after playing all day against teams from across the region, they produced an outstanding win for themselves and the club. It was an excellent result for the players of Paulton who played exceptionally well to lift such a trophy.
Meanwhile, the men played their match, at home against St Anne’s Bristol, in the Turnbull Cup where, a county inter-club competition. However, despite very changeable conditions and winning on two of the four rinks, Paulton were unable to secure the overall shot numbers to gain the win and progress to the next round. But the men can be proud of the way they played - particularly for such splendid play in challenging weather conditions. Saturday the 28th the County League games resumed for the Paulton club with a home game against Purnell B which, in great bowling conditions, they won on all but one rink giving them a useful ten points, and leaving the club in a strong fourth position in the division - and with a game in hand. Wednesday evening the 1st the men again played in the MSL at home against Prattens gaining a win on two of the three rinks, securing another ten points again leaving them in a good position in this league. There is nothing as pleasing as a well kept lawn on a summer’s evening with the sound of birds and the click of bowl against jack and if anyone would care to experience this, come along on a Friday evening where a great welcome awaits anyone look to play this marvellous game.
