IT WENT down to the last singles game in the ‘A’ v ‘B’ match at Camerton and Peasedown Croquet Club in the Golf Croquet 5+ level play league organised by the South West Federation of croquet clubs.
The CPCC ‘B’ team, captained by Des Back, started well. At the halfway point at lunch-time the score was 6 games to the ‘B’ team and 4 games to the CPCC ‘A’ team led by newly appointed captain, Ann Munton. In the afternoon the ‘A’ team played well in their singles matches and also won both of their doubles matches.
With the result of the last game still to be decided, the score stood at 10 games to CPCC ‘A’ team and 9 games to the ‘B’ team. A win for the ‘A’ team in this last game would have meant an overall win for them but a loss would mean the points would be halved in a draw.
The ‘B’ team came good at this stage, forcing a drawn match with 10 points awarded to both teams.
The best performances of the day were from Trish Naish for the ‘B’ team and Nigel Wulcko for the ‘A’ team who both won all their singles games with Nigel Wulcko improving his GC handicap.
