THE Seniors section of Fosseway Golf Club have enjoyed a more than satisfactory first season in the Avalon Seniors League but their recent fixture away to Long Sutton A saw them on the wrong end of a 5-0 scoreline.

Captain Andy Flagg and Roger Parfitt together with Shaun Goodwin and Malcolm Emery each went down 4&3. Chris Appleton and Gary Wilcox and Martyn Cuer and Phil Winsley went close before losing 2&1 while Dave Josham and Paul Trigg were beaten 3&2.

There was a much better result in the latest social match with Fosseway winning 3-2 away to Henstridge. Acting captain Alan Jones and partner Graham Edgell led the way, finishing their encounter 2 up but the most convincing winners were Paul Ellis and Trigg who won 4&2. Mike Cole and Pete Young marked their debuts in the team with a halved match, a result equalled by Anthony Gregory and Winsley. The only pair to lose were Rob Wells and Cyril Blacker who went down 4&2.

The Seniors’ July medal proved a successful one for Pauline Brixey who finished top of Division 1 with a nett 67. Trigg continued his good run with a nett 68 which earned him second place ahead of Flagg who also came in with a nett 68 but was beaten on countback.

Countback was also required to decide the placings in Division 2 . Richard Sullivan claimed first place with a nett 65, beating Gerry Rowell who also had a nett 65. Cole and Rex Wyatt both recorded nett 67s but again countback handed Cole third place.

The Ted Cottle Trophy for over seventies saw Mike Weeks produce his best form of the season to win the Stableford event with 39 points . Second placed Steve Brixey also came in with 39 points with third placed John Cooper a further point behind.
