THE Ladies' section at Orchardleigh Golf Club have enjoyed their Lady Captain's Day organised by Jan Light.

As usual the format for the day was full of fun and this year it was a three ball Bowmaker with a twist. Jan had chosen a tropical theme, so players were encouraged to dress in a very colourful way, very topical and appropriate for the current hot weather.

The hot spell has dried out the course considerably so there is a good run on the ball which generally helps with the scoring. The halfway house was manned by members who didn't want to play in the competition and who were more than happy to stay in the shade serving Pimms and tasty snacks to the players, who were very grateful for the refreshments.

After an excellent meal in the clubhouse the winning teams were announced and this year Carol Jenkins, Mary Ford and Sonia Probert came in with the best score. Ann James, Sheila Goodbody and Anne Kirk were the runners up.

There were three holes for nearest the pin. Carol Jenkins achieved this on the 3rd hole, Anne Regler on the 7th and Mary Ford on the 10th. As always it was an event much enjoyed by all the lady members.

In the Bristol & District Alliance League the Orchardleigh Ladies lost their away match to Saltford B – 5/9 and again away playing Henbury C team 4/10 but drew a home match against Mendip B 7/7.

In the Somerset Inter-club League, Orchardleigh have not had a good season so far, playing mostly away matches. They lost to Enmore at home 1.5/5.5 and then lost three away matches - to Isle of Wedmore 0.5/6.5, Oake Manor 2/5 and Wheathill 1/6.
