The Seniors’ section of Fosseway Golf Club celebrated another enjoyable season with a Presentation Lunch at the Centurion Hotel, Midsomer Norton.

Seniors secretary Alan Jones looked back on a season that had been a good one for the social team with four wins, three defeats and one halved match away to Cannington which he felt was arguably the best result of them all. He said that there had been sadness with the deaths of two playing members, Nick Foxwell and John Waters, and that of a former member John Drybergh. Jones said that everyone was pleased to hear that one of the groundstaff Kev Gill was making good progress after a long illness and added that a number of new members had joined the Seniors’ section.

The player of the year award for the Roger Tabb Trophy went to Alan White who had an outstanding season winning the Rupert Moore Championship, the Rod Bruce Scratch Championship, the John Appleton Cup for the over 75s and the Don Shearn Trophy. Jones himself had another successful season. He won the Eric Jones Cup for the summer eclectic nett score, collected the Vic South Winter Bowmaker Trophy alongside Geoff Hallett and Phil Winsley, won the Clem Byrne Trophy together with Chris Appleton and Cyril Blacker and lifted both the Groundsman’s Trophy and Roger Tabb Cup each time in partnership with George Thurston as well as being runner-up in the Winter League. The Nick Foxwell Memorial Trophy was won by Blacker while Graham and Dilys Edgell combined to claim the Joe Hawkins Mixed Puttsomes Cup.
