THE Ladies' Section at Orchardleigh Golf Club always have an annual 'Away Day' and this year they headed off to Oake Manor Golf Club, which is near Taunton and Wellington.

It was organised by Lady Captain Jan Light who did a great job planning the day so that everyone enjoyed a good time. The course was looking fantastic although the weather was a bit damp and drizzly, which reflected in the rather low scoring.

The format was a three ball waltz, one, two, three scores to count. The best team score for the day was 63 points achieved by Jan Light, Rachel Priddle and Jenny Merrett. The runners up were 10 points behind, brought in by the four ball Pat Pitt, Lin Handley, Sarah Doble and Diana Bullock.

There is an Away Day Trophy given for the best silver division individual score which went to Rachel Priddle on 29 points and the bronze division trophy went to Christine Arnold with 27 points. There were two nearest the pin holes but the silver players didn't manage to make the green on the 14th hole and only one of the bronze players got on the green of the 16th, which was achieved by Sonia Probert.

The ladies had a one course meal afterwards in the clubhouse where they agreed that everyone had had a great day and thanks were given to the Lady Captain for her organisation skills.

The previous Sunday, 17th May, The Barwell Masters was played at Orchardleigh on a rather cool showery day. This year's winner was Sue Sweet who came in with a nett score of 75 and runner up was Gail Painter on nett 77.

On Monday 11th May, the Orchardleigh Ladies played a Bristol & District Alliance League match at home against Henbury C and enjoyed a good win 10/4.
