The Seniors’ section of Fosseway Golf Club celebrated another enjoyable season with a Presentation Lunch at the Centurion Hotel, Midsomer Norton. The year had been notable for an influx of new members from the Westbury club and Seniors’ Captain, Gerry Rowell, praised the way they had integrated into the Fosseway Seniors group and especially Doug Lane, who had taken over as Competition Secretary. He thanked Brian Phelps, who Lane had taken over from.

On the playing side Rowell said the Seniors had won eight matches, lost eleven and drawn one in social matches. The Rose Bowl had seen the team put up a good performance at Orchardleigh before losing 3–2 to a strong Mendip team. He said he hoped that next year, some of the main club members would make themselves available to help the Seniors become even more competitive. He congratulated the main club on an excellent performance in the Avalon League, which had seen them win their section and achieve promotion. The Seniors Open had been another huge success and the Poppy Appeal event, introduced by Doug Lane, had raised over £250 for the appeal.

The Player of the Year Award for the Roger Tabb Trophy went to Allen Cheney, who won the Club Championship to lift the Rupert Moore Cup, beating Barry Dugmore in the final. Alan White enjoyed an outstanding season, winning the Ted Cottle Trophy, the Broadway and Smith Cup, the Bill Lester Texas Scramble, the Continuforms Trophy, the Committee Cup and the Summer Eclectic.

Noel Chatfield lifted three trophies, winning the Colin Eaton Cup and the Don Shearn Trophy, and combining with Martyn Cuer to carry off the Guerwyn Thomas Trophy while Captain, Rowell, won the Eric James Cup and joined up with Brian Woodruff to collect the Roger Tabb Cup. Woodruff himself was top player at the Seniors Open.

Secretary, Alan Jones, was competitive throughout the season, with three victories to his name, and there was also a brace of successes for Brian Fear, Frank Reeves, John Smart, Phil Moody, Cyril Blacker and Graham Edgell, with Blacker claiming the Rod Bruce Scratch Trophy with an excellent gross score.
