WELTON ROVERS U18's 1 PAULTON ROVERS U18's 0: A cracking game in pouring rain watched by a crowd in excess of one hundred with both young sides showing some fine football movers and two stand out goalkeeping displays.

Welton saw Finn Miners fired wide but then took a 15 minute lead as keeper Frankie Phillips deep free kick was turned home by Oli Thomas.

Phillips then demonstrated his ability by saving from Paulton's Louis Simmons. As the West Clews boys dominated the visitors and young custodian Massimo Sardo saved well from Joe Marshland effort and then three times Sardo and his defenders cleared off the line and then Welton hit a post direct from a corner.

The last action of the half saw Phillips alert to snuff out a chance from George Stevens. On the restart Harrison Rogers should have scored as Welton probed but Paulton responded well and Stevens and Sean Markey both tested the home goal.

It was Paulton that pushed for an equaliser and Welton were nearly made to rue their first half multiple chances as with five minutes left on the clock, Markey was tripped and Stevens' penalty was well saved low down by Philips. This ensured the hosts took all three points.

All in all a good watch with Phillips and Sardo in the respective goals joint players of the match.
